2019 Calendar / سالنامه‌ی ڕه‌نگین

The Kurdish calendar is a solar calendar that starts on the first day of spring, March 21. The Kurdish names of months are named after the weather and agricultural conditions of the seasons. The lack of national unity, that is a result of Kurdistan’s history of occupation, has rendered it impossible to create a unified version of the calendar that is accepted by all. Salnamey Rengîn is based the most widely-used modern version of the Kurdish calendar, with special attention given to the names of the months, which accurately correspond with the seasons of the year. I do not own any rights to the photos.
I started publishing Salnamey Rengîn independently in 1998 in the United States as a way to reconnect with the beauty and history of our homeland. This calendar has come a long way from the first copies that I bound together by hand, but the aim remains the same: to promote Kurdish culture and history among the youth in the diaspora.
